Flashpoints & Industrial Fire Safety

The flashpoint of a liquid is the lowest temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air. Measuring the flashpoint of a liquid requires a source of ignition. The vapor may cease to burn at the flashpoint when the source of ignition is removed. The lower the flashpoint of the liquid, the more hazardous it is to handle around sources of ignition.
